A 10 km. south of Mâcon, in the department of Rhone, Beaujolais region begins.
With more than 60 km. long and 12 km. wide, this region occupies eastern and southern slopes of the mountain range to the west by Linda wide valley of the Saone. The Beaujolais vineyard covers some 22,000 hectares and produces on average about 1.3 million hl of vine per year. The wines of Beaujolais (AOC) are, almost entirely red wines.
The southern part of the region is called "Beaujolais Bus" and the soils are calcareous clay. Essentially produces red wines and a few pink (white pocus). The Gamay grape vines can get some shade red with violet, Ifgeros, nervous, sweet, very fruity, to be drunk young. Are the Beanjolais and Beanjolais Supéneurs.
Further north, on a granite soil, are produced Beaujolais Villages wines with more body than before and are retained longer.
The northern part of the region is called "Haut Beaujolais" and their soils are composed of two residues of granite, porphyry and shale. With the variety Gamay, red wines are produced fleshy, generous, more so than the previous body, but very thin. This region of the Ten
The Fleurie, Juliénas, Morgon, Moulin à Vent, can age up to five years. Other wines from Beaujolais should be consumed young.
AOC wines with "Beaujolais" "Beaujolais Supérieur" and "Beaujolais Village" vines can be marketed as "Primeur" (oven), from the third Thursday of the month of November following the vintage.
